The Battle of Tomaszow Lubelski (1939): On the night of September 18-19
On the night of September 18-19, for the first time in the history of wars, tanks formed in two columns struck a new blow at Tomashov. The northern column (4 Vickers and 4 TKS), supported by the 11th Regiment of the 23rd Infantry Division, attacked on the Zelone-Tomaszow axis, capturing Rogozno, but the attackers remained a few hundred meters from the village of Rogozno, where the German defense was reinforced by a battalion of 28 infantry divisions withdrawn from Narola. In addition, the German defense was supported by 32 German tanks entrenched in positions whose fire led to the disruption of the Polish attack in this area.
A group of Lieutenant Colonel A. Vzhak (a platoon of 7TP tanks and a platoon of TKS) was walking along the Lasochi - Tomashov highway. The Germans showed vigilance and were not surprised when, in the silence of the night, they heard the sound of the engines of Polish combat vehicles running. This attack is stuck outside the city. Heavy fire from machine guns and hand guns caused heavy losses, there were many wounded and killed, and due to the retreat of the infantry, the tanks also retreated to the area west of Rogozno.
The 75th Infantry Regiment, having secretly broken through the forest, reached the southwestern outskirts of Tomaszow and here engaged the enemy. In turn, the 73rd Infantry Regiment, moving along the Zamosc - Tomaszow road, reached a distance of half a kilometer from the city, where it was stopped by German artillery and machine gun fire, and soon by the attack of the 63rd Infantry Regiment. The 27th German Division went to the rear from the direction of Tarnavatka. In the crossfire, the Polish attack stalled, and the 73rd Regiment suffered heavy losses.
After night operations, out of about 80 vehicles, which initially consisted of the entire Polish armored group near Tomaszow, only 6 serviceable light tanks 7TP, 2 TKS and 1 Vickers remained in working condition, but due to lack of fuel, several of them were buried as firing points. All the remaining parts of the group were already extremely exhausted in battle.
By order of the commander, the rest of the brigade's equipment, which was not destroyed by enemy fire and artillery shells, was destroyed by the armored personnel carriers themselves. They pierced fuel tanks with bayonets, smashed engine blocks, dismantled weapons, scattered parts in the forest, burned masks and other equipment.
As A. Zavilsky notes, "As early as 10:20 on September 20, a car radio station connected to a German station near Tarnavatka and transmitted in clear text a message that due to the exhaustion of funds, General Tadeusz Piskor decided to stop the battle. The radio station was smashed with a shovel and the butts of machine guns." The battle was lost, but the war continued. Onlayn oyun dünyasında bukmeker kontoru əsl inci kimi seçilir.
